Mahindra is internationally famed as the world’s most sold tractor. Yes, they may not boast as much stardom in the United States as domestic brands like John Deere do, but it is interesting to note that Mahindra tractors have been around since 1962. For a manufacturer with such a wealthy history, you may still wonder, “are Mahindra tractors any good?”

Mahindra tractors are tough and reliable. This manufacturer bagged the esteemed Deming Prize (in recognition of outstanding product quality) in 2003. These tractors are some of the most innovative, with cutting-edge engine designs like the Mahindra mCRD engine technology redefining the tractor space. Mahindra tractors are also comfortable to use, with uncommon 7-year warranty coverage.

Who makes Mahindra tractors and where?

Mahindra is the third biggest tractor manufacturer worldwide. Founded in 1962 in India, the Mahindra B-275 was the first tractor this manufacturer released in 1963.

Since then, Mahindra has enjoyed tremendous global expansion, with the bulk of its tractors targeted at the North American market being assembled in Mahindra’s plants in the United States.

Mahindra has at least five operational assembly plants scattered across Houston, Tennessee, California, Marysville, and Chattanooga.

Note that a significant fraction of the materials and implements deployed in Mahindra’s American assembly plants are manufactured overseas. Mahindra operates a comprehensive distribution network on the U.S continental shelf, with more than 500 dealers distributed across the country.

Are Mahindra tractors reliable?

The ultimate proof of Mahindra’s tractors’ reliability is winning the reputable Deming Prize for total quality management. Mahindra tractors are renowned for their relentlessness and durability, making them befitting for deployment on some of the toughest terrains.

They are versatile, thriving in a broad range of applications from regular plowing to heavy-duty excavation and earth moving.

Traditionally, most Mahindra tractors are fully plated in metallic material. We see the front axle girded with protective guards on some of the latest models.

Are Mahindra tractors easy to use?

We loved how accessible Mahindra’s major controls were from the driving seat. The joystick and the loader valve are readily within reach from the armrests.

Most of the Mahindra models we checked out had steering wheels you could tilt. This means you could bend the steering more comfortably towards you or just tilt it forward. The pedals are easily reachable as well.

The Mahindra 3640 Premium was one model we particularly enjoyed for its ease of use. It was easy and fast to install (and even take off) the loader and switch to pallet forks from buckets.

This simplified functionality was due to the Mahindra 3640 Premium’s front self-leveling loader fitted with a speedy hitch-and-attach system.

How are Mahindra tractors’ engines?

Mahindra tractors come with powerful engines. Mahindra’s affordable engines range from 15 hp to 85 hp. But what struck us most was the groundbreaking mCRD engine from Mahindra.

This engine boasts a unique eco-friendly design, high performance, and remarkable fuel efficiency. Would you be interested to learn that the Mahindra mCRD engine reduces industrial pollution by saving our ecosystem over 360 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually?

This high-pressure fuel injection engine engineering excels at chopping down visible engine emissions. What is more, those already pestered with engine maintenance would be excited to learn that Mahindra’s mCRD engine runs with no DPF.

This engine’s positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) technology is topnotch, with premium efficiency, meaning it can trap and dispel gas from the chamber.

Lastly, we will commend the mCRD’s diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) after-treatment system. Regeneration is not mandatory here, significantly shrinking tailpipe emission.

What power do Mahindra engines have?

The generality of Mahindra Tractors has their power rating ranging between 41hp-50hp.

The new age Mahindra Yuvo 475 DI is one of the lowest (in power) Mahindra tractors we saw. It has a modest 42hp power rating.

The Mahindra 555 DI Power Plus and the New Mahindra Novo 755 Di are two of the most powerful tractors we saw in Mahindra’s collection.

Both have power ratings of 57hp and 75hp, respectively.

What type of transmission do Mahindra tractors have?

Mahindra tractors have various transmissions systems, depending on the model and application. The sliding and constant mesh transmission systems were the most prevalent we came across.

Mahindra Models like the Mahindra 245 Di Orchard combined the sliding mesh and constant mesh transmission systems, while models like the Mahindra Yuvo 265 DI were exclusively built on modern constant mesh transmission systems.

More powerful models like the Arjun Novo 605 Di-ps are fitted with mechanical and synchromesh transmission systems.

How much do Mahindra tractors cost?

Overall, Mahindra tractors are affordable. Understandably, the cost rises with sophistication and how recent the model is.

Models like the Mahindra Arjun Novo 605 come at around $12,870. The Mahindra Novo 755 Di, which provides up to 75hp, costs about $17550.

If you don’t have that much to spare, you can go for relatively lower models like the Mahindra 415 DI HP. This guy costs well lower at $7250.

And if you want something even cheaper, Mahindra has got the Mahindra 255 DI for you. This guy goes for a generous $4615.

Note that these prices are not definitive as the cost of a Mahindra tractor could vary with the dealer you work with.

Do Mahindra tractors have warranty coverage?

Not many tractor manufacturers can rival Mahindra’s 7-year limited warranty coverage for its tractor. This warranty policy comprises a 2-year bumper-to-bumper cover and then another 5-year warranty for the powertrain.

Best Mahindra Tractors Reviews

Alright, we have tried our hands on quite a few Mahindra tractors. But which performed best during our inspection?

We will say the Mahindra 3640 Premium and the Mahindra 275 DI TU SP Plus.

Mahindra 3650 PST

This is one of the most powerful tractors to emerge from Mahindra’s cradle. It is operated by a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke water-cooled engine that delivers speeds up to 2800rpm and a power of 49hp.

For a transmission system, the Mahindra 3650 PST presents a completely synchronized hydraulic shuttle system, enhanced with wet disc brakes.

This tractor boasts the highest lift capacity among Mahindra’s full tractor lineup. It can pick up to 1401kg. Delivering up to 50hp and hydraulic power of 41.6 liters/hr, this tractor can capably take on the most arduous farming duties.

Mahindra makes a point of outfitting the 3650 PST’s front self-leveling loader with a quick hitch-and-attach system. This reduces the rigors of transiting to your pallet forks from buckets.

It is also worth noting that the 3650 PST is girded with Cat I and II ball ends. Thanks to this facility, you can easily switch to accommodate the accessory size you deploy with your tractor.

Mahindra 275 DI TU SP Plus

Not the most powerful tractor Mahindra has but definitely one of the most compact. Featuring a 3-cylinder 2048cc engine that delivers up to 39hp, this tractor is well suited to medium-to-pretty-tough applications.

We love the fact that this tractor comes with oil-immersed brakes. Add this to its 3260mm turning radius, and you get a tractor that readily stops when in operation.

In its category, the Mahindra 275 DI TU SP consumes fuel the least. Its overall performance is top-class with impressive backup torque and high-max torque. This is also one of the very few Mahindra tractors covered by a 6-year warranty.
