1 – The key must be in the ignition for the bike to run

At first glance, it seems that a key ignition prevents my electric bike from being stolen easily, so that’s a good thing. And while it is a good security measure, the key ignition on the Lectric XP 2.0 makes it almost impractical to use.

The Lectric XP 2.0’s ignition is under the frame, which can be found by a single tube extending from the front to the back of the bike. For most other e-bikes on the market, the key is inserted into a key lock on the handlebars. To power the Lectric XP e-bike on, riders have to reach under it, plug in keys, push it up and twist. The key has to stay in the ignition during your entire ride, and hang in the breeze as you ride to your destination.

2 – The battery takes too long to charge

The Lectric XP 2.0’s 48V 9.6Ah (460.8Wh) battery takes a considerable amount of time – 6 hours – to fully charge from empty. This seems especially long when compared to other, similar products on the market that have higher-capacity packs yet recharge in a shorter amount of time.

For example, the Aventon Aventure electric bike has a 720Wh (48V 15Ah) battery and takes about 4-5 hours to charge. Additionally, Juiced’s Ripcurrent S, which has twice the Lectric XP 2.0’s capacity, charges fully in 8 hours or less.

3 – It is not designed to go off-roading

The Lectric XP 2.0’s suspension fork limits the travel to about 40mm. If you anticipate riding over larger bumps, this won’t suffice. It’s better suited for paved roads and light trails and will perform decently here.

However, hard trails are not recommended as the bike isn’t designed to handle that level of uneven terrain.

4 – It doesn’t stay folded

The bike doesn’t have a mechanism that stops it from unfolding when it’s folded, so you might have to hold it together yourself. This isn’t a huge deal though, as riders can just buy velcro straps to keep both halves of their bikes in place after they’ve been folded. 6 – It weighs a lot

The Lectric XP 2.0, despite its ability to fold into halves, is a fairly heavy electric bike at 64 lbs.

As mentioned before, it’s not any more practical to carry when folded than in its extended state. If you’re seeking a lighter folding e-bike option, the XP Lite might be worth your while, it weighs 46 lbs and is smaller than the XP 2.0.

A Few Positive Aspects of the Lectric XP

The Lectric XP 2.0 is a tough budget electric bike that should give riders at least 1000 miles before any of the e-bike’s major components need to be replaced. It may not come with some of the fancier amenities that are standard on other foldable e-bikes, but it is tough and durable.

According to the manufacturer, the Lectric XP e-bike can support up to 330 lbs of weight. In fact, the rear rack alone can support up to 75 lbs!

You might need to occasionally adjust the brake cables, especially if you’re heavier than average. You’ll also have to fill up the bike’s tires with air every now and then when they lose pressure. With proper care, however, this e-bike should last for two years without issue.

Consider What You Need in an E-bike
